ANWAR Ibrahim, who has been criticised for his trips abroad and meetings with VIPs since his royal pardon, said all he wants to do is share Malaysia’s success story with the world.

He will be visiting several countries starting with Turkey tomorrow to share how a nation ruled for more than 60 years by one party finally changed its government on May 9.

“I was still in prison, not knowing my fate (during the general election). If the people supported Pakatan Harapan, I would get out early. It turned out the people truly supported PH.

“It was crazy… the shocking victory shook not only Malaysia but world politics,” Anwar told Permatang Pauh folk tonight at his daughter, Nurul Izzah Anwar’s Hari Raya open house in Guar Perahu.

Anwar, who is the de facto PKR leader, said he recently returned from London, where he met former US vice-president Al Gore.

Gore praised the “extraordinary” feat achieved by Malaysia, voting out its old government that ruled “a la dictator”, he said.

“He said it was amazing the different races in Malaysia could do it together, giving support to change.

“A third thing that surprised Gore was how I can work with Dr Mahathir Mohamad,” he said, referring to the prime minister who sacked him in 1998.

“It is because we put the people first. As long as anyone – even ex-Umno or ex-PAS people – agree with the agenda to save the people and the country, to implement reform and defend the federal constitution, we can work together.

“That was how we managed to change the government.”

Tomorrow, Anwar is leaving for Turkey to visit his old friend, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who had supported calls for his release from jail.

“He always asked Najib (Razak) and (Ahmad) Zahid (Hamidi) when he met them when they would let me out,” he said, referring to the former prime minister and deputy prime minister.

“After Turkey, I will go visit other countries in the Middle East and Asia. They all want to know how we did it… how a country of different races achieved this,” he said.

Anwar also told the crowd that he was fine being just a Malaysian citizen who supports the government.

He said if the government under Dr Mahathir did anything wrong, he would give feedback accordingly.

“When the time comes, I will contest a parliamentary seat. My friends have been telling me to contest.

“But for now I will explain to the world what happened in Malaysia. When Dr Mahathir has done what he wants to do, I will take over.”

Anwar promised that his first kenduri as prime minister will be in Permatang Pauh. – June 17, 2018.

  • AS THE SAYING GOES, "AFTER THE FEAST COMES THE RECKONING". THE REAL HARD WORK IS JUST BEGINNING. BRACE YOURSELF. IT IS LIKE OBESITY- IT TAKES TIME TO PUT ON WEIGHT, IT ALSO TAKES TIME TO SLIM DOWN..

  • But En. Anwar deserves this sharing with the world, for starting his reform Malaysia movement in the late 1990's. I recall thinking unfavourably of him after his sacking as DPM. For marshalling & uniting the opposition to take on Barisan he is entitled to be Premier at least once, after Tun Dr. Mahathir has had enough time to complete his very, very, difficult agenda to set Malaysia on course for a bright future..

    • I don't trust him and Azmin. Always ME FIRST.Try to analyze how they manipulate and deceive others to get where they are today.

  • Me ..... Me .... Me .... a blady power crazy egomaniac who thinks the Premiership is his birthright and selfishly promoting own self on an international publicity campaign (and name dropping like a novice politician) thus NEGLECTING his own country. Stay at home-lah to help the old man who is inundated with serious problems. Be like Tony Pua (who we never hear of after GE) who is quietly and diligently helping LGE without any expectations of rewards.

  • Who is the idiot who criticize Anwar's trips? I say the Malaysia govt has to pay for it even. Anwar has to win the intellectual Islam debate in this country and on the world stage. It must go back to its spiritual meaning and throw away meaningless observance of the religion. Anwar IS NOT Technocrat - He is PM only by ideology NOT execution which he had to rely on Mahathir on. Especially when Anwar become PM, actual power must be devolved to the new generation like Rafizi, Nurul, Nik Nazmi. Anwar must take the Islam stage and go ahead no less to the entire PAS-UMNO Ulama estabilshment.

  • The ugly truth about Anwar is his inability to set his priorities right. Instead of focusing on the country's economy and thinking on how to recover the billions that were plundered under the previous regime, he travelled first class across the globe, travelled on private planes, enjoyed 5 star facilities at hotels and seemed unstoppable to abuse his perks and priviliges. This is very unfortunate because he could create a cult-like image of Gandhi or Mandela after his years of imprisonment. Instead of meeting the simple folks in the village and the thousands who throng the streets seeking reforms, he went straight to meet the monarch, bending and kissing hands to the very institution that had allowed him to be incarcerated. God forbid if he ever becomes the Prime Minister.

  • Saudara Anwar is trying to boost and promote his image abroad. If you analyse his recent statements to the media and his speeches, you would note that he is unhappy with Tun Mahathir because Mahathir had 'used' him to gain support during Ge14and that he is holier than others. Nurul Izzah stated recently that there is no rift between Anwar and Mahathir. It is all bullshit. Anwar should grow up and demonstrate some maturity.
he should be patient and must not be in haste to take over the mantle from Tun Mahathier. He should exercise a lot of restraint and control his emotions and wait for his time. In other words, he should not roack the boat. He should give some space and time to Mahathir to get some things sorted out. Will he?
