THE commander of the police commando unit has been named as the new chief of Eastern Sabah Security Command (Esscom).  

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman witnessed the handing over of the Esscom commander’s duties to Police Special Actions Unit commander Hazani Ghazali at Sri Libaran in Sandakan today.

Hazani takes over the post from Wan Abdul Bari Wan Abdul Khalid, who will retire on June 26.

Musa said he was satisfied with Bari’s leadership of Esscom, as he had foiled several kidnappings. 

“Under Bari, Esscom foiled several attempted kidnappings in Lahad Datu and Semporna, which led to the death of three members (of the kidnap-for-ransom group Abu Sayyaf in December last year),” he said.

“It is our hope that Hazani will continue this effort. The state government is always working with the federal government to ensure that the state remains safe.”  – June 19, 2017.
