No one has talked about Mahathir becoming PM, says Nurul

PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim may have pulled out of the prime minister’s race but Pakatan Harapan does not look any closer to resolving the Prime Minister issue.

Following Anwar’s withdrawal, Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamed had looked like a shoo-in for the job.

But PKR vice president Nurul Izzah Anwar seemed to play down the discussion yesterday when she said the question of whether Dr Mahathir would be the next prime minister had not yet arisen.

“No one among us are speaking about PM candidates. And if we were, his name (Dr Mahathir) has not been floated at all. We will continue to deliberate this and have meetings.”

Nurul, who is the Lembah Pantai MP, said she hoped that more Malaysians will prioritise the need of the country over themselves.

“For me it’s all about sending a clear message. It’s not about position, it’s not about power.

“But what we can do is to initiate change at all levels so that the agenda of reform precedes everything else. Malaysia before partisan positions,” she said after distributing Ramadan goodies at Taman Bukit Angkasa today.

Anwar had also said in a statement yesterday that PH should now focus on the coming general election and all other side issues, such as leadership and power struggles, and verbal spats, should stop.

Earlier today, Nurul said it was not crucial for PH to name a prime minister or supreme leader.

“What makes anyone think that it (PH) must officially name a PM designate or a supreme leader to lead the alliance as a pre-requisite to winning GE14?

“Didn’t Pakatan Rakyat win the majority vote in GE13 without officially naming a supreme leader or a PM designate?” said Nurul Izzah in a Facebook post. – June 18, 2017.
