SARAWAK PKR chairman Baru Bian has refused to comment on a report that he will be made works minister, only saying ministries that are important to the state should be headed by Sarawakians.

The Selangau MP said commenting on The Malaysian Insight report on Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s full cabinet line-up would be premature and speculative, and that he has not received any appointment letter.

“But what is important is for Sarawak to get a portfolio that is important to the state, like the Works Ministry.”

Baru and state Pakatan Harapan chairman Chong Chieng Jen are tipped to be named to the cabinet when Dr Mahathir announces the appointments to the remaining portfolios.

So far, no one from Sarawak or Sabah has been named.

Chong, whose name was not mentioned in the report, was also coy when asked about the matter at a press conference this morning.

He said he will not comment on “the prerogative of the prime minister” or answer hypothetical questions.

He also said he has not received any appointment letter.

A well-placed source in Sarawak PKR said Baru “looks like (he will be) getting” the works portfolio, and Chong could be named as head of the proposed Sarawak Affairs Ministry.

“Looks like it,” said the source, who added that decisions could change from now till when Dr Mahathir makes the announcement.

Asked if he could work with Baru should the latter be made works minister, Sarawak Deputy Chief Minister James Masing, who is also state infrastructure development and transportation minister, said: “I can work with anyone who means well and is sincere in doing what is good for our people.” – June 13, 2018.
