CHANGES will be made in Universiti Pertahanan Malaysia’s (UPNM) system if needed following the death of naval cadet officer, Zulfarhan Osman Zulkarnain.

Defence Minister Hishammuddin Hussein, however, did not explain what would be changed.

“I want UPNM and Military Training Academy (ALK) to take responsibility and we will see if we have to make changes to UPNM. They cannot wash their hands off this case.

“They (investigation committee) will propose to me (the plan) and I will notify the public,” he said after a briefing session of Umno’s handbook on the 14th general election at Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) yesterday.

On June 1, Zulfarhan died from second and third degree burns that covered 80% of his body.

He was also believed to be tortured with an iron steamer, belt and clothes hanger, among others, after he was alleged to have stolen a laptop.

Five suspects were charged with murdering Zulfarhan, and one with abetting the crime.

According to the university’s official website, UPNM started as the Malaysian Military Academy (ATMA) on June 1, 1995.

On Nov 10 2006, ATMA expanded to become UPNM. – June 18, 2017.
