THE government will review the second phase of the KTM Klang Valley double-track rehabilitation project to try and reduce the time and cost needed for its completion.
Transport Minister Anthony Loke said the second phase of the track would cost RM5.9 billion and would need seven years to complete.
“We will review the project again in terms of reducing the cost and duration (for completion),” he said at Kuala Lumpur Sentral today.
The second phase of the project will cover upgrading works for the KL Sentral-Port Klang and Salak Selatan-Seremban lines.
The first phase of the KVDT rehabilitation project, which began in the first quarter of 2016, is scheduled to complete on November 2019.
Loke said the project, which entails 42km of track between Rawang and Salak Selatan, is currently 60% done.
Dhaya Maju Infrastructure (Asia) Sdn Bhd is the company currently undertaking phase one of the project.
Former transport minister Liow Tiong Lai had previously said the project was essential as it would reduce the point-to-point train travel time by half.
The KVDT rehabilitation project also includes upgrading of 16 KTM stations as well as the signalling and electrification system for the overall network. β June 11, 2018.
