ABU Talib Othman said the new attorney general Tommy Thomas should ensure justice when handling the 1 Malaysia Development Berhad case.

The former AG , who is heading the committee tasked with investigating 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB), said Thomas would receive the investigation paper once the investigation teams are done with the probes.

“We congratulate him on his appointment. He has said that he will need to study the report once submitted, so we wish him all the best.

“We hope he will ensure justice for all… justice to the state and the persons alleged to have not observed the law,” he said outside Ilham Tower in Kuala Lumpur.

He added that the committee would meet frequently until the matter is resolved.

The 1MDB committee was set up by the Council of Eminent Persons and includes PwC Risk Assurance Services partner Nik Shahrizal Sulaiman, Naqiz Partners senior partner Syed Naqiz Shahabuddin Syed Abdul Jabbar, Financial Services Authority Indonesia senior adviser Faris Rabidin and Centre to Combat Corruption and Cronyism director and founder Cynthia Gabriel.

The primary focus of the committee is to ensure that Malaysia is able to secure convictions on all wrongdoings related to 1MDB and to maximise the recovery of all assets traceable to the state fund.

Meanwhile, the special task force investigating 1MDB is jointly led by former attorney-general Abdul Gani Patail, former Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission chief commissioner Abu Kassim Mohamed, current MACC chief commissioner Mohd Shukri Abdull and former Special Branch deputy director Abdul Hamid Bador. – June 7, 2018.
