Dr Mahathir questions loyalty of civil servants

PRIME Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad today questioned the loyalty of civil servants who had campaigned for Barisan Nasional (BN) in the 14th general election.

The Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman said the new government is concerned if the civil servants are with BN or the government of the day.

“We are questioning if they are loyal to the old government. This will disrupt the PH administration (if they are).

“We have to see if we can get the cooperation from the officers. They should not side any party but they are free to vote for any party,” he said after PH presidential council meeting at Bersatu office in Petaling Jaya.

Dr Mahathir said civil servants should be backing the government of the day as the new administration will be implementing its own policies.

“We want to govern with our with own manifesto. Their jobs are to implement what the government of the day’s initiatives are, which are from PH.

“Now, we need to make sure that they are with us and they should impartial.”

Dr Mahathir also said the present government will not take any action against civil servants unnecessarily.

“That is not our way (to handle things). We do not want to punish them unnecessarily.

“But we need to see and know their loyalty. Unfortunately, they have committed themselves to the propaganda of BN,” he said.

Dr Mahathir hopes that they will change their attitude and be neutral.

“They will have to carry out the policies and instructions of the present government.

“There are also other issues that we are looking at to ensure that everything is going as planned.”

Asked on the number of civil servants involved in disseminating BN propaganda, Dr Mahathir said they are not sure but there are many. – June 1, 2018.

  • Quite true, I think. Only yesterday I overheard a police officer comment that "corruption is in our blood"! So Dr. M's govt has a really uphill battle to try reducing corruption, not only in the civil service but everywhere in Malaysia. Reports say that many are involved in corrupt activities, & younger Malaysians don't even understand what amounts to corruption..

  • I would like to congratulate YAB Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad on his non-stop effort to reform civil service. Clearly it is a fact that there are non-loyalists working under disguise. Theynarebthe real culprits during BN umno time athatbtjru rule upon the directive of BN umno masterminds. They have failed the whole civil service purpose for the sake of theer wealthy positions being yes-man to these political masters. These top guns have misused their positions and failed to differentiate politics and responsibilities. These heads must fall. They are the cancers in the overall administrative system. I was sacked due to thier incompetence to distinguished an officers rights. In my case, it was an internal trap that was created with a bad intention. Everyone was scared to be vocal. Nobody can say a word. My 5 words were manipulated to disgrace myself and making the best scapegoat for BN umno agenda. I seek reinstatement to this unfair dismissal. I voiced out on my rights, but they lied and manipulated my intentions. Correct the wrong Tun. Dismiss the true liers and sabotagers who are untouchable. They have to be dismiss.....sack!

  • Without fail a few things must take place, corruption past and present must be exposed, shamed and penalized. A way to partially redeem them by both returning the loot and a public apology also must exist, the full force of the laws still have to be enacted upon them and leniency only when any have co-operated to assist in recovering much of the loot. Before that, the Judiciary and AG's office and Election commision must all be cleaned up. There is real job opening for that in, while eliminating 1000's of fake and inefficient employees at every level. Malaysia has a bloated civil service predominantly on 1 ethnic category - merely to appease and that does not go very well for efficiency. Efficiency is the yardstick and every industry and biz has been corrupted by the Malaysian and that's another topic but has to stay in the rear view mirror all the time. Every party (personS) that assisted and partook in the looting the nation or assisted or attempted to or destroyed evidence and traceability must be just as responsible in proportion. Just as an entitlement ( regardless of ill-gotten has taken root into some segment of the population). If the Press (media) is any free which has not been, there will be more and more investigative reporting. Being able to record and public interactions and admission of audio and video in such cases will start crippling most day to day corruption. White collar crime must be dealt with even more severely as oppose to common crime. The Quantum should matter. Looting national wealth and dragging the nation en masse has to be dealt with an equivalent to traitors.
