IT has been suggested to the Council of Eminent Persons (CEP) that a council be appointed to oversee and develop the arts, said Karyawan president Freddie Fernandez.
Fernandez said he had met with the CEP and discussed with it the various art forms including film, writing, music as well as fine arts.
“We suggested to put all these various disciplines under one particular body which will then be able to monitor and also conduct activities to develop the various art industries,” he said at Ilham Centre in Kuala Lumpur, today.
He said the council was considering the idea, which he said would benefit all artistes in the country.
“(It) seems positive and I hope it will materialise.”
Last week, singer Siti Nurhaliza suggested reforms in the arts industry under the new government, reported Star Online.
She said there should be a body that looked after the welfare of artistes. – May 30, 2018.
