ALMOST 16,000 people have signed an online petition is calling for the Nobel Peace Prize to be awarded to Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad for leading Pakatan Harapan to victory in the 14th general election.
Alexandria Abishegam posted the petitiotn on change.org, saying she nominated Dr Mahathir because he is seen to be the “Nelson Mandela of Malaysia” as he led PH to overthrow Barisan Nasional, which has been in power for 60 years.
“The victory of the Tun Dr Mahathir led election victory displacing the ruling Barisan Nasional party after more than 60 years in power was not only stunning and historic but has brought with it a new dawn a “Malaysia Baru”,” she said in her posting.
The transfer of power from the Barisan Nasional government to PH also was done smoothly because of Dr Mahathir, she said.
“Though all manner of underhanded ‘tricks’ were used to prevent a fair election, Tun Dr Mahathir inspired millions of voters – “the ordinary rakyat” cutting across all racial and religious backgrounds – to fight back by voting and speaking out in a peaceful and non-violent way,” Alexandria added. – May 27, 2018.
