PARTI Warisan Sabah is disputing the election results for the Kimanis parliamentary seat, alleging the Election Commission (EC) had changed the outcome in Barisan Nasional’s favour.
Warisan’s Kimanis campaign director Mohd Zainal Matali lodged a report at the Paper police headquarters yesterday, The Star reported.
He said his party had evidence that EC representatives had initially refused to acknowledge Warisan candidate Karim Bujang as victor and this caused disruptions during the counting process on May 9.
Zainal also said the BN candidate, Anifah Aman, came twice during the counting process, after which the results alleged changed in his favour by a margin of 156 votes.
“Clearly, there was a change in the results after the Sabah Barisan Nasional candidate showed up twice. He was unhappy the first time, and came back again,” Zainal said.
Anifah received 11,942 votes, defeating Karim who got 11,786 votes.
Anifah is the former foreign minister and younger brother of Sabah BN chairman Musa Aman, whose whereabouts are currently unknown after allegedly intimidating the head of state to force his swearing in as chief minister on May 10.
Musa has now been replaced by Warisan president Shafie Apdal as chief minister. – May 27, 2018.
