I didn't run away, it was a misunderstanding, says Jamal

RED Shirts leader Jamal Yunos denied that he fled the Ampang Puteri Hospital while under remand, claiming it was a case of “misunderstanding”, Watan Online reported.

The 48-year-old told the daily that he thought his remand ended at 2pm on Friday, and had left the hospital to take out money to pay for his bail.

“The matter is a misunderstanding as I thought the process was completed. However, there were documents that I haven’t signed,” said the Sungai Besar Umno division chief.

“I will still give my co-operation to the police.”

Jamal said he was surprised to find that he has been accused of fleeing the police.

His lawyer, Mohd Imran Tamrin confired Jamal left after he was dicharged from the hospital.

Imran added that Jamal is still recovering from back pain but reiterated that his client will appear in court to complete the bail process.

“He did not run away. He has kept abreast with developments and will give his full cooperation to police,” Imran said, adding that the incident was “exploited” by Jamal’s detractors.

On Friday morning, he was charged with being a public nuisance when he smashed bottles of alcohol in front of the Selangor state secretariat building in a protest against the Better Beer Festival last year.

Jamal pleaded not guilty and was granted RM3,000 bail. Jamal was initially arrested on Tuesday and placed under remand for allegedly displaying a firearm. – May 27, 2018.
