Residents of Taman Desa in Kuala Lumpur have criticised Seputeh MP Teresa Kok for her inaction against what they claim is overdevelopment in their neighbourhood.
In a post on the “Protect Taman Desa From Over-Development” Facebook page, media coordinator M. Gunasekar said requests by residents for the DAP lawmaker to intervene were ignored.
“She has not attended any protest or media conference organised by the coalition. Attempts to get her to organise a town hall session failed.
“She is not willing to state her stand with regards to the overdevelopment and land grab issues in Taman Desa,” he said in the Facebook posting.
In response to criticisms levelled against her, Kok said that she will organise the town hall meeting with the residents soon after the Federal Territories Minister is appointed and charts out the new direction.
“Please be patient. I’m fully aware of the communication in the residents’ chat groups in Taman Desa,” she responded, adding that Mayor Amin Nordin Abd Aziz will look into the issue once the FT minister is appointed.
The residents’ association is protesting against the approval of several high-density projects as the area’s four-decade-old infrastructure, including public transport, roads and water pipes, have not been upgraded.
Last year, residents filed a suit against Amin to halt construction of a condominium three to four times taller than surrounding ones. – May 26, 2018.
