NAJIB Razak is Lim Guan Eng’s newest online troll.
In recent days, the former prime minister has been responding on his Facebook page to Lim’s statements on the country’s RM1 trillion debt.
Najib in his posting tonight picked on Lim’s remarks on Friday that Malaysia’s economic fundamentals were strong when the finance minister had earlier this week announced the country’s huge debt.
“I’m astonished how quickly the country’s economy has changed from supposedly being in crisis and a failure before GE14, to one that is strong and solid.
“It’s only been slightly more than two weeks?” Najib posted on his Facebook page, referring to the May 9 polls when Pakatan Harapan swept to federal power.
His post was accompanied by a May 25 report by The Star on Lim’s statement that Malaysia’s economy remained strong despite the need to improve the current fiscal condition.
Lim had been answering journalists questions on how the government would regain investors’ confidence given the high amount of debt.
In his first press conference on May 22 after being sworn in as finance minister, Lim had confirmed that Malaysia’s debt was RM1 trillion.
Najib wrote a Facebook post on May 23, accusing Lim of making a “political narrative” instead of stating facts, and that his announcement on the debt, without any details, would “unsettle the financial markets and alarm credit rating agencies”.
In another post on May 24, Najib said BN had always been transparent about national debt after Lim gave a breakdown of the RM1 trillion debt.
Najib then posted a separate statement saying it was wrong of Lim to say that the Finance Ministry had “bailed out” 1Malaysia Development Bhd. – May 26, 2018.
