POLICE are still looking for Red Shirts leader Jamal Md Yunos, whose whereabouts remain unknown after he disappeared from a hospital in Ampang, Selangor, yesterday.
State Criminal Investigation Department chief Fadzil Ahmad told Malaysia Decides that police believe that the Sungai Besar Umno division chief is still in the Klang Valley.
“He is still here. I have asked our officers in Ampang to find him because we are still unable to contact him.”
Even Jamal’s lawyer, Mohd Imran Tamrin, is in the dark as to his whereabouts.
“We have no idea where he is or what his plan is. We are worried that he might have received the wrong advice,” Imran, who is also Sungai Panjang rep, told Malaysia Decides.
Jamal, who had been held at the hospital since Tuesday, escaped before his bail proceedings were completed, after he was charged yesterday with being a public nuisance.
Imran, in a statement, said Jamal’s disappearance could be due to a “miscommunication” over whether the bail process has been wrapped up.
“This is his first experience facing a situation or procedure outside court chambers. I also believe this is just a mistake, and there is no intention to commit any crime, including escaping from custody.”
Malaysia Decides has been attempting to contact Jamal and his aides since yesterday, to no avail.
He was charged over his act of smashing beer bottles outside the Selangor state secretariat, in a protest gimmick against Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali over beer festivals held in the state.
Jamal has pleaded not guilty.
On Tuesday, he was arrested for displaying a pistol in public. He was held at the hospital, where he is undergoing treatment for his back.
State police chief Mazlan Mansor said Jamal has two other arrest warrants, which will be served after he has completed his treatment. – May 26, 2018.
