INSTEAD of Barisan Nasional-bashing in its ceramah, government of the day Pakatan Harapan (PH) is telling its supporters and the public how they will do better than their predecessor.
“PH must be whiter than white,” PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said in a ceramah at SP Arena in Seberang Jaya last night.
“We must not allow anything that can cause the people to suspect us. The people are our partners in the struggle.
“They can criticise us and tell us what they think. That is the difference between PH and BN,” he said, adding that PH must deliver its pledges and be a more responsible government.
Saifuddin, who is Kulim-Bandar Baharu MP and Pantai Jerejak assemblyman, said PH was also getting its cabinet members and MPs to publicly declare their assets.
“It may seem like a small matter but it is crucial… it shows that we take our positions and responsibilities seriously. They are burdens to bear, not for showing off,” he said.
PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar also said all in the PH and government leadership must watch themselves.
“We are now in a new era. Government leaders fear the people. The people do not fear government leaders,” she said.
PH de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim, the star of the ceramah attended by thousands, said PH leaders from the very top to the grassroots must never betray the trust of the people.
The PKR leader also said the people and the media would be welcomed to keep the PH government in check by sharing their views and criticisms.
“We are in a euphoria so everyone supports us now. When the dust has settled, the media has every right to criticise the federal and state governments.
“It is when the media brown-noses the government that leaders become rotten,” he said.
Also at the ceramah was Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, who asked the people to give the PH government time to deal with the many problems such as the RM1 trillion national debt left behind by the previous administration so it could look into implementing reforms. – May 26, 2018.
