POLICE will return the baby shoes that were seized from Najib Razak’s daughter’s home on the night of May 18 if she could prove that they were bought using her money, said Commercial Crime Investigation Department director Amar Singh Ishar Singh.
“They can come and claim the item if they can produce (proof) that it was bought with their own money,” Amar said in a press conference held at the CCID headquarters on Jalan Tun Razak this morning.
Two days after the seizure at the plush Pavilion Residences apartments in the middle of Kuala Lumpur, Najib through his then lawyer Harpal Singh Grewal, issued a statement saying he was shocked and upset that his children’s personal items and gifts were seized.
Among the items seized were several pairs of baby shoes and clothes that were purchased for his grandson.
Harpal said Najib was also disappointed that the police had eaten chocolate at his children’s home and had also asked the maid to cook for them.
In response, Amar urged the former prime minister’s lawyers to lodge a report about the incident and the police will investigate accordingly.
“I request the lawyers to come forward, lodge a report and tell us exactly who have taken the chocolates and we will investigate further.
“I wish to reiterate that during our search, I called in all my officers and gave them a very strict and stern warning that no photographs were to be taken, and we are suppose to conduct the search as professionally as we can because we are searching the premise of our ex-prime minister and the family of the ex-prime minister, ” said Amar. – May 25, 2018.
