Hannah Yeoh to broach police housing, facilities upkeep in Parliament

INADEQUATE housing and lack of funds for general upkeep of old facilities are some of the issues troubling the police force that Segambut MP Hannah Yeoh will raise in the next Parliament sitting.

“I will study and raise these issues concerning the police force when Parliament convenes,” she said in a statement today.

The former Barisan National government had promised police personnel half of the 2,500 units in the Kenanga and Cempaka 1Malaysia Civil Servants Housing Scheme (PPA1M).

It was the first such affordable housing scheme the previous government had offered to police. The projects in Presint 19, Putrajaya are expected to be completed by the first quarter of 2021.

In Budget 2018, former prime minister Najib Razak announced that 10,000 units of PPA1M homes would be offered to the police.

Yeoh had recently paid a visit to Sentul district police chief (OCPD) ACP Munusamy Rengasamy and met with the heads of departments to better understand how they worked.

“During the meeting, I shared my key priorities for Segambut, namely neighbourhood safety and and crime involving teenagers.

“I believe a strong relationship between the police force and the community will be effective in tackling these matters,” she said, adding she was also briefed on local crime issues in the area. – May 25, 2018.
