THE lawyer representing embattled Sabah Barisan Nasional chairman Musa Aman today confirmed that MACC officers have raided the former chief minister home in Luyang, but pointed out no files or documents were taken.
Musa’s counsel, Zahir Shah issued the statement today after checking with the commission over the raid conducted on Wednesday afternoon.
“We would like to put on record that while the MACC was there to conduct a raid, we have been made to understand by the MACC themselves, that no such seizure took place i.e no files and documents of any kind were taken.
“We are further made to understand and confirmed by the MACC that no raid or any seizure of any kind took place after the said incident as well. We also strongly urge the media to verify their facts before publishing a story pertaining to our client,” he said.
Zahir was responding to a Star online article published this morning alleging MACC officers had seized several documents during the raid.
It could not be ascertain what prompted the raid and whether it was connected to the alleged RM20 million paid to Sabah Star assemblymen, who are led by Dr Jeffrey Kitingan.
Dr Jeffrey was questioned by the MACC on May 22 following reports that he had been paid to bring to BN the two Sabah Star seats the party won during the 14thgeneral election.
The two seats – Bingkor and Tambunan – secured a simple majority of 31 state seats for BN, enabling Musa to be sworn in as chief minister.
But in less than 48 hours, six Umno and Upko elected representatives defected and gave their support to Warisan, which is led by Shaife Apdal and allied with Pakatan Harapan.
Shafie was sworn in as chief minister on May 12. – May 25, 2018.
