A PEEVED M. Kulasegaran today ordered the Industrial Court to work weekends and public holidays to clear its backlog of cases.

The human resources minister said the court had three months to clear 1,970 cases which had not been dispensed with because of “administrative weakness”.

“I told them, Saturday, Sunday, you stay back and do your work. Many of them not celebrating Wesak Day so they can work.

“Nights they can stay back and work; I don’t want to see this,” said Kulasegaran, during a visit to the IRD.

The lawyer who has himself logged many an hour working on cases for the Industrial Court over the years also ordered that all letters addressed to him be answered within 48 hours. – May 24, 2018.
