THERE is no such thing as a “transfer of power”, said Rafidah Aziz.
In a radio interview with BFM today, the former international trade and industry minister said the people had to get rid of the term “transfer of power”.
“There is no transfer of power. It is the vote of the people. This is not a transfer of power.
“Get it out of our minds. The people have spoken. Delete those words,” Rafidah said when she was asked if she was concerned with the change in government that took place after the 14th general election on May 9.
In the recent election, Barisan Nasional was voted out for the first time as the government after 60 years of being in power.
BN lost to Pakatan Harapan and only managed to get 79 parliamentary seats, while the latter won 122 seats out of 222 seats.
When asked if she had expected PH’s victory, Rafidah said she was confident with the pact.
“There was this widespread feeling (the country) needed change that would lead to a better Malaysia.
“I was very confident we would win. In fact, we won beyond our expectations, at least beyond my expectations,” she said.
Rafidah also answered a Twitter question which asked her opinion on having 30% women representation in the cabinet.
“Let’s not talk about numbers. Let’s not talk about gender. Let’s talk about quality,” she said.
A group of activists had staged a protest outside Istana Negara on Monday, urging PH to fulfil its promise of having women comprise at least 30% of the cabinet. – May 24, 2018.
