Najib’s legacy is rubbish, says Rafidah

FORMER prime minister Najib Razak’s legacy is rubbish and he should not be compared with his father, Malaysia’s second prime minister Abdul Razak Hussein, said former minister Rafidah Aziz.

In an interview with BFM today, Rafidah said the father and son had governed the country very differently.

“His father left a legacy we should be proud of because he started the development process right after Tunku Abdul Rahman. But his son made a mess of it,” Rafidah said.

Rafidah, who was international trade and industries minister, had campaigned for Pakatan Harapan in the run-up to GE14. She was subsequently sacked from Umno.

Rafidah said Razak’s legacy will be remembered with pride while Najib’s is one of  “shame and disgrace” thanks to the scandals that have dogged his career in office.

She said Najib has proved a disappointment to many who had expected him to be a visionary when he took office in 2009.

“Over the years, he has turned out to be a great disappointment.

“It is not fair to mention Tun Razak and Najib in the same breath,” said Rafidah.

Asked if she had any advice for Umno who is now in unfamiliar territory as the opposition, Rafidah said she had none as the members knew very well what had gone wrong.

Barisan Nasional experienced its first defeat in the general election on May 9, after 60 years of power.

Najib is currently under investigated over allegations he was party to embezzling and laundering of 1Malaysia Development Bhd funds. He is being questioned again in connection with the case at MACC in Putrajaya today, after a five-hour interrogation on Tuesday. – May 24, 2018
