THE institutional reform committee will begin dialogue with stakeholders and NGOs on Monday, said committee member Mah Weng Kwai.
Former Court of Appeal judge Mah said groups such as electoral watchdog Bersih 2.0 and the pro-moderate Muslim group G25 had submitted their papers to the committee.
“We’re looking at the various submissions that came in and we are fixing our timetable and dates to have dialogue with these individuals and groups starting 28th of the month,” Mah told reporters at the Ilham Tower in Kuala Lumpur this evening.
The other committee members former Court of Appeal judge KC Vohrah, National Patriots Association president Brig Jen (Rtd) Mohamed Arshad Raji, Professor of Law at Universiti Malaya Shad Saleem Faruqi and Hakam president Ambiga Sreenevasan.
The institutional reform committee will focus on key institutions such as the the Attorney-General’s Chambers, Judicial Appointments Commission, the police, Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission and Election Commission.
The committee has 60 days to make its recommendations to the government, which will likely include the repeal or amendments of laws deemed to empower the executive branch of the government. The committee will submit its report to the Council of Eminent Persons. – May 23, 2018.
