ABOUT RM120 million is the total of the cash seized by police at condo units linked to former prime minister Najib Razak, The Star reports.
Quoting unnamed officers from the Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID), it said police took three days to count 30 bags of cash from three units in Pavilion Residences in Kuala Lumpur.
“Some 30 bags of cash were counted by police personnel with the assistance of Bank Negara officers. The total amounted to around RM120 million,” The Star quoted a source as saying.
CCID director Comm Amar Singh declined to comment on the amount, the report said. He said he would hold a press conference in due time to provide updates on the seizures linked to investigations into 1Malaysia Development Bhd.
The money was counted at CCID headquarters in Jalan Tun Razak. The process took a long time as investigators counting the money also noted down each bill’s serial number.
The cash will be stored in Bank Negara.
The money seized was part of a haul that included 284 boxes of designer and luggage bags filled with cash, watches and jewellery from the condo units.
Simultaneous raids took place last week at various premises linked to Najib, including the Prime Minister’s Office and Seri Perdana in Putrajaya, as well as his private residence in Jalan Langgak Duta. – May 23, 2018.
