PROMINENT lawyer Muhammad Shafee Abdullah was seen entering former prime minister Najib Razak’s Taman Duta home this evening.

He arrived at 6.20pm in a chauffeur-driven car.

Shafee was appointed by former attorney-general Abdul Gani Patail as lead prosecutor in PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim’s second sodomy case.

Last June, Sarawak Report said Shafee had received payment in two tranches of RM4.3 million and RM5.2 million in 2013 and 2014.

Anwar had, on June 9, filed a suit to reverse his sodomy conviction, on the grounds that he had been denied a fair trial.

On November 9, high court judge Azizah Nawawi allowed the government to quash the suit on the grounds that Anwar’s claims regarding the RM9.5 million payment were “bare allegations”.

“He has not given any evidence to support his allegations,” she was reported as saying.

Najib had been making plans to replace lawyer Harpal Singh Grewal with Yusof Zainal Abideen and M. Puravalen, and executed the change when the two former criminal lawyers agreed to defend him. – May 23, 2018.
