PRIME Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad has scrapped five government bodies and committees which he said were vehicles used by the previous Barisan Nasional government for its political agenda.

The National Council of Professors (NPC), Federal Village Development and Safety Committees (JKKKP), Prime Minister’s Department’s Performance and Delivery Unit (Pemandu), the Special Affairs Department (Jasa) and Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) will be disbanded while their roles will be taken over by existing agencies.

Dr Mahathir said JKKKP role would taken over by other government offices, while SPAD’s role would be take over by the Transport Ministry.

He said NPC was useful as it collected data and provided analysis for the government.
“But of late it was used just to support the government. We don’t want this bad practices from the past,” he said after chairing his first cabinet meeting today.
