ABDUL Azeez Abdul Rahim confirmed today that he tendered his resignation as Tabung Haji chairman before the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission raided several premises linked to him in Kedah and the Klang Valley.
The Baling MP told Malaysia Decides the raids were yesterday, a day after he tendered his resignation to the Tabung Haji board.
Azeez was a political appointee. It is now believed that several other members on the Tabung Haji board will also tender their resignations soon.
During his time as chairman, Azeez had defended Tabung Haji’s decisions following criticisms that it had “bailed out” 1Malaysia Development Berhad.
His defence came on the heels of news that Tabung Haji had paid RM2,773 per square foot for a 0.6ha plot in the Tun Razak Exchange area in Kuala Lumpur, a hefty premium on the RM64 psf price at which 1MDB had acquired the land from the federal government. – May 23, 2018.
