THE Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission raided the home of Sabah Star president Dr Jeffrey Kitingan last night.
The operation was carried out amid rumours that Kitingan had received RM20 million in return for the two state seats the party won in the 14th general election going to Barisan Nasional.
Parti Warisan Sabah and BN were tied at 29 seats, leaving Kitingan’s party to play the role of kingmaker.
A Star member, who wanted to be identified only as “Dino”, said MACC officers were at Kitingan’s house in Likas around midnight, and that RM80,000 in cash was seized.
He added that the officers were at the Star office earlier, around 10.30pm, and a raid was also carried out on Bingkor assemblyman Robert Tawiq’s home yesterday.
“MACC officers interviewed the staff (at the Star office)... how much their salaries are, and how the party raised funds.
“We told them that the funds came from membership fees and donations to the party.”
Dino said he and party secretary-general Guandee Kahoi were called to the MACC office for further questioning.
“We were told that MACC officers will be returning the cash to Kitingan as they were not able to find links between the claims made regarding the RM20 million and the money found in his house.” – May 22, 2018.
