Don’t worry about my finance post, says Sabah CM

The Malaysian Insight

SHAFIE Apdal has assured critics that his decision to hold the finance minister post will not result in any abuse of power.

The Sabah chief minister said the state’s finances are in good hands, regardless of who held the position at present.

“I reiterate don’t blame the car, it could be the driver’s fault,” he said after meeting with heads of state departments and secretaries of various Sabah ministries today.

Shafie made the analogy when comparing the Barisan Nasional government, whose former chief minister Musa Aman also held the finance ministry.

Shafie’s decision to take the finance ministry was criticised and certain quarters have started a petition for him to relinquish the post.

Under the Pakatan Harapan manifesto, anyone who holds the top post must not be allowed to hold a second portfolio, especially finance.

Shafie’s party, Parti Warisan Sabah, however, is not part of PH.

To date, the petition has garnered more than 17,000 signatures.

Earlier, Shafie said his cabinet is looking into the election promises and will announce them as it implements them in the first 100 days.

Among them is to abolish communal title and resolving the racial and religion problems in Sabah.

The chief minister is also due to meet with the Eastern Sabah Security Command (Esscom) and National Security Council, tomorrow, to discuss the security issues in the state.

One of the election promises was to relocate the Lokkawi army camp in the west coast to the east coast. – May 22, 2018.
