POLICE will investigate Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission chief Mohd Shukri Abdul’s claim that he received threats while working on the case of 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB).
“If a report has been made, the police must investigate,” said Home Minister Muhyiddin Yassin.
“The outcome of the investigation will be handed to the relevant parties and if there is a prime facie case, action will taken,” he said in a press conference today.
“If Shukri has information about his life being threatened, he should give it to the police to investigate. If there’s such a case, we would like to see the outcome of it,” said Muhyiddin.
The Bersatu president was responding to Shukri’s claim of intimidation and threats while investigating the 1MDB scandal.
Shukri said the then-inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar had assigned people to trail him in the United States when he was there to work on the case.
At a press conference at the MACC head office today, Shukri said he had opted for early retirement after he was threatened in 2015.
He and then-MACC chief Abu Kassim Mohamed had left the agency abruptly in July 2015 after the two said there were signs of impropriety in the transfer of RM42 million from SRC International Sdn Bhd to former prime minister Najib Razak’s personal account.
Inspector-General of Police Mohamad Fuzi Harun said he would look into Shukri’s allegations.
“I am not aware of the allegations but I will look into it,” said Fuzi.
On the progress of the police investigation into 1MDB, he said many parties were involved in the probe and the public would be duly updated.
Meanwhile, Muhyiddin said his first task as Home Minister was to review some laws.
Among the laws he mentioned were the Printing Presses and Publications Act, Security Offences (Special Measures) Act, Sedition Act, Peaceful Assembly Act, and Prevention of Terrorism Act.
He said the ministry would also assess the foreign-worker situation in the country, and the problem of illegal immigrants in Sabah. – May 22, 2018.
