MURDERED senior deputy public prosecutor Kevin Morais was not involved in investigations into 1Malaysia Development Bhd, said MACC chief commissioner Mohd Shukri Abdull.
“As far as I know, Kevin was not involved in the investigations,” he said.
“He was involved in the army colonel’s case.”
Sarawak Report editor Clare Rewcastle-Brown on Sunday told the Malay Mail murdered senior deputy public prosecutor, Kevin Morais, was the unidentified man who had leaked to her information about the attorney-general’s investigation into misappropriation of funds at 1MDB subsidiary, SRC International.
Rewcastle-Brown said she had been informed by “reliable sources” that it was Morais who had fed her the information that there was a charge sheet against former prime minister Najib Razak.
“I was contacted directly by that person (who prepared the charge sheet)..I think it was Kevin Morais,” she said.
Three years ago Morais’ brother, Charles made a statutory declaration saying Kevin was responsible for drafting the charge sheet against Najib and that he had sent copies of the charge sheet to Sarawak Report.
The documents were said to have been sent the day after Najib removed attorney-general Abdul Gani Patail and several government officials in an apparent attempt to pre-empt his arrest.
Kevin went missing on September 4, 2015.
His body was found in a drum filled with concrete two weeks after his family filed a missing person report.
The drum was found at Persiaran Subang Mewah, Subang Jaya.
R. Dinishwaran, 26; A.K. Thinesh Kumar, 25; M. Vishwanath, 28; S.Nimalan, 25; S. Ravi Chandaran, 47; and, Colonel Dr R. Kunaseegaran, 55, have been charged with his murder. The death sentence is mandatory for those found guilty of the charge. Gunasekaran changed his plea to guilty after being charged with concealing Kevin’s body and destroying his vehicle. He was sentenced to two years in jail.
Last week Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad confirmed Abdul Gani Patail had his contract terminated because he was preparing to charge Najib after authorities traced RM42 million of SRC’s money to his personal bank account.
Sarawak Report had also published official investigation papers that showed the money trail.
