BN Perlis forwards 3 names for MB post

The Malaysian Insight

BARISAN Nasional Perlis has forwarded three names as menteri besar to Raja Perlis, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Putra Jamalullail, said Ismail Kassim.

The three are Tambun Tulang assemblyman Ismail, Santan assemblyman Azizan Sulaiman and former menteri besar and Bintong assemblyman Azlan Man.

Ismail confirmed the three candidates yesterday.

“At this point, three names have been forwarded to Tuanku, including the former menteri besar.

“All 10 BN assemblymen met Tuanku, including me. In my case, I met Tuanku twice,” he told Malaysia Decides.

Ismail was asked to help resolve the menteri besar Perlis saga, nearly two weeks after the 14th general election.

BN won 10 out of the 15 state seats, with PKR (3) and PAS (2).

Perlis is one of three states still under BN rule after GE14, apart from Pahang and Sarawak, with the latter holding its state elections in 2016.

BN Perlis chairman, Shahidan Kassim, earlier said it had forwarded Ismail’s name as the next menteri besar. Ismail is also Shahidan’s brother.

Ismail meanwhile rubbished claims that the MB saga has dragged on because BN is keen to form a unity state government with Pakatan Harapan.

He said BN need not do so since it has a clear majority in the state.

Nevertheless, he did not rule out working with PH since the state depends on Putrajaya for 45% of its budget. – May 22, 2018.
