Public asked to provide info to Institutional Reforms Committee

The Malaysian Insight

THE Committee for Institutional Reforms is calling on people to provide it with information on cases of poor governance and structural problems in institutions, as part of its mandate under the new federal government.

It said individuals and groups who want to alert the committee to such issues can submit written representations by May 28 to the committee’s secretariat, as well as via email.

These can be cases involving institutions that “have structural defects, or have failed to function according to the law, or have poor governance, or have ineffective decision-making processes or inadequate redressal mechanisms”.

The committee may call those who have submitted information for face-to-face meetings, it said in a statement today.

It said the purpose of looking into such complaints is for institutional reform, and “not about any personal grievances or individual misconduct of public officers”.

Written submissions should be addressed to the Secretariat, Committee for Institutional Reforms, at Level 32, Ilham Tower, Jalan Binjai, 50450, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, with an email copy sent to [email protected].

The committee, headed by retired Court of Appeal judge K.C. Vohrah, has begun studying information provided by some groups and individuals it had approached.

“If necessary, some of the individuals and groups will be requested to attend closed-door discussions with the committee.”

The scheduled dates for these discussions are May 28, 29 and 30, and June 1, 4, 8, 10, 12, 13 and 18. – May 21, 2018.
