MOHAMED Azmin Ali has accepted the position of economic affairs minister, letting go of his Selangor menteri besar post.

The PKR deputy president accepted the post in Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s cabinet after getting the consent of the Selangor sultan. 

“The consent of his royal highness follows from the clarification and assurance received from Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad concerning the scope of work and areas of jurisdiction of the new ministry,” Azmin said in a statement today. 

He also pledged to turn around the nation’s economic condition, which deteriorated under the previous Barisan Nasional administration. 

“I am resolved to enhancing the nation’s economic competitiveness so as to place Malaysia once again as the economic powerhouse of the region. 

“No doubt, we will remain committed to our social justice cause and initiatives of ensuring that the wealth of the nation be distributed fairly and equitably,” Azmin said. 

The Gombak lawmaker said despite his love for the people of Selangor, he has to serve a higher purpose in the federal government. – May 21, 2018.
