MOHAMED Azmin Ali will remain as Selangor menteri besar until his replacement is named and approved by the sultan of Selangor, a statement from the palace said.

“(Azmin) will retain the post of Selangor menteri besar for the time being until the transition of power to a new menteri besar is carried out in a smooth and orderly manner,” said the statement dated today and issued by the sultan’s private secretaries, Mohamad Munir Bani and Lela Bakti.

Azmin, who was named as economic affairs minister in Pakatan Harapan’s federal cabinet, has also been asked to provide the ruler with the names of menteri besar candidates for his highness’ consideration, they added.

“Azmin will only relinquish his post as menteri besar once the sultan gives consent to the appointment of a new menteri besar.”

The PKR deputy president informed the ruler of his intention to accept the federal post in an audience yesterday.

Two names speculated as candidates for the menteri besar post are Sungai Tua assemblyman Amiruddin Shari and Seri Setia assembylam Dr Shaharuddin Badaruddin. – May 21, 2018.
