What do my daughter’s wedding gifts and grandson’s shoes have to do with 1MDB, asked Najib Razak.
He questioned why the police were taking gifts given to his daughter for her wedding when they were supposedly probing 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).
Najib said that his daughter, Nooryana Najwa Najib, was married to a man from a well-to-do family from Kazakhstan, and some of the gifts police had taken from her were from her in-laws.
“What has my daughter’s wedding to do with 1MDB? She married a well-off guy. They took her gifts. They took the clothes and shoes of my grandchild also. What do the child’s shoes have to do with 1MDB?” Najib asked during a speech when officiating the Pekan Umno branch meeting today.
It was Najib’s first public speech since he lost the 14th general election.
His speech, delivered at times with an angry tone, was greeted with cheers from a boisterous audience.
“She did not marry a guy from B40. She does not get BR1M,” he said, referring to the bottom 40 group and the cash aid, Bantuan Rakyat 1Malaysia.
Najib is currently being investigated under the Anti-Money Laundering and Anti-Terrorism Financing Act 2001.
He has also been blacklisted by the Immigration Department and barred from leaving the country.
The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission has also summoned Najib to its headquarters next Tuesday for questioning over SRC International Sdn Bhd, a former subsidiary of 1MDB.
This follows police raids on several properties connected to Najib, including condominium units in Pavilion Residence. – May 20, 2018.
