FORMER Umno president Najib Razak was touched by the support he received from party members in Pekan.

The former prime minister said he was shocked by the turnout at the Umno Pekan amphitheatre, which was packed with people.

“I have never seen the amphitheatre here filled with so many Umno members. When I was PM, this hall was never this packed, but now that I am not PM, the hall is filled with people,” he said.

“There isn’t enough chairs; many are standing and even sitting on the floor. This is a sign that Umno is still strong,” he said during his speech today at the Pekan Umno division meeting.

Najib said Umno was now in an “eclipse” but the Umno spirit was indomitable.

“We are in tears, we are at the start of an eclipse, there is no power in our hands, but no one can kill the spirit of Umno.”

The crowd at the amphitheatre today were not all party members. Some were members of the Orang Asli community and even children were allowed in. – May 20, 2018.
