NAJIB Razak’s supporters gathered outside the Umno building in Pekan, Pahang, to show solidarity with their former prime minister.
Najib, who stepped down as Umno and Barisan Nasional chairman last week, was in Pekan today to attend the Umno delegates meeting.
Najib is the Pekan MP as well as the local Umno division chief.
As well as Malays, his supporters today were made of up of Orang Asli, Indians and Chinese. Some held up banners and placards proclaiming they will support the former prime minister “until they die”. Some called on the Umno leaders to resign instead of blaming everything on Najib.
The supporters greeted the arrival of the former Umno president with chants of “Long live Najib”.
Pekan MIC Wanita leader Thanaletchumy said she felt pity for Najib because he had contributed a lot to the people, especially the Indian community.
“We are sad. He did well for the Indian community. He helped us a lot,” she told Malaysia Decides.
Asked if she believed the allegations against Najib, she said there was as yet no conclusive evidence to show he was guilty.
“They can say what they want but he has not been proven guilty,” Thanaletchumy said. – May 20, 2018.
