PUTRAJAYA under Pakatan Harapan will adopt an “open book” system, Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng said today.
The PH government will make sure there are no secret information or files concerning the nation’s finances unlike the previous Barisan Nasional administration, Lim said.
“We have to look at the financial statements that had been announced, to see if they were accurate or not.
“From what I have seen, things are not as what was announced… we have to be cautious,” he said during a visit to Tech Dome Penang in Komtar earlier today.
Lim, who will be sworn in as minister tomorrow, did not elaborate on what he had seen in the books. He has also been tight-lipped about his new portfolio since being picked by Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
“We have to get all the financial reports and information. That is most important.
“We have to make sure no information or files are concealed. We want to have an open book system.”
This is not the first time Lim has hinted that there are problems with the nation’s finances.
Last Monday, during a post-GE14 mega-ceramah in Penang, Lim said after speaking with officers from agencies under the Finance Ministry and looking at the accounts, he discovered “things we never knew about”.
Asked about Mohamed Azmin Ali’s appointment as economic affairs minister, Lim said there should not be any overlap with his own finance portfolio. – May 20, 2018.
