PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim is travelling to Jakarta today on the invite of former Indonesian president Bacharuddin Jusuf Habibie.
This is in conjunction with the 20th anniversary of Indonesia’s reformasi, said Anwar in a statement.
Anwar said: “1998 is an important year for both Malaysia and Indonesia.”
May 21, 1998 marked the fall of the Suharto regime and transition to a democratic regime under BJ Habibie, he said.
Meanwhile, 1998 was also the start of the reformasi movement in Malaysia, sparked by the former deputy prime minister’s sacking and filing of corruption and sodomy charges against him.
After two decades, Barisan Nasional was defeated in the 14th general election on May 9.
