Robert Kuok returns next week for council of elders meeting

HONG Kong-based billionaire Robert Kuok will return to Malaysia next week to meet with the Council of Eminent Persons, said council chairman Daim Zainuddin.

“Robert Kuok has a wealth of business experience, in property development, hospitality, tourism, his suggestions will be invaluable,” the former finance minister told Malaysia Decides.

Apart from Kuok and Daim, the other three members in the council set up by Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad are former Bank Negara governor Zeti Akhtar Aziz, former Petronas chief Hassan Marican and prominent economist KS Jomo.

Last week, the council summoned civil servants and government-linked companies to review several projects, including the East Coast Rail Link.

It also set up a committee of institutional reforms to advise the Pakatan Harapan government.

The IRC members are retired Court of Appeal judge and former Suhakam commissioner K.C. Vohrah, Hakam president Ambiga Sreenevasan, retired Court of Appeal judge and Suhakam commissioner Mah Weng Kwai, National Patriots Association president Brig-Jen (rtd) Mohamed Arshad Raji and Tunku Abdul Rahman Professor of Law at Universiti Malaya Dr Shad Saleem Faruqi. – May 20, 2018.
