MOHAMED Azmin Ali will have an audience with Selangor Sultan Salahuddin Idris Shah this afternoon to discuss his position as menteri besar following his appointment as economic affairs minister.

Azmin will inform the sultan his decision to resign as menteri besar to take up the federal post in Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s cabinet, said a Selangor source.

Azmin was sworn in as menteri besar, a post he has held since September 2014, on May 11, a couple of days after Pakatan Harapan won the 14^th general election.

He met Dr Mahathir yesterday after his appointment as minister on Friday.

Two names have been forwarded to the sultan as menteri besar replacement. They are Seri Setia assemblyman, Prof Shaharuddin Badarudin and Sungai Tua assemblyman Amiruddin Shari, who is also an executive councillor.
