BUKIT Aman has asked former prime minister Najib Razak to provide more information to support his allegations that police behaved disrespectfully during a raid in his relatives’ apartments.
Commercial Crime Investigation Department director Amar Singh asked Najib for more details, in response to his complaints that the cops helped themselves to the contents of the fridge and asked for meals.
In a statement tonight, Amar said he had instructed the officers to be professional when searching six premises in connection with an investigation into the 1Malaysia Development Bhd financial scandal.
“I request that more details be provided on such incident that took place and also identify, if possible, the police personnel who are involved.
“I will not tolerate such conduct and stern action shall be taken against the personnel concerned in contravention of our police standard operating procedure, if the allegations are found to be true,” Amar said.
Najib’s lawyer Harpal Singh Grewal today said officers who raided condo units occupied by Najib’s children had eaten food and chocolates from the refrigerator and had asked for meals to be prepared for them.
Najib’s wife, Rosmah, meanwhile, through her lawyers said pictures of the raid at their private residence had been leaked to feed “social media trolls” and to fuel to public anger at her and her husband.
Amar said all officers conducting the search were strictly prohibited from carrying their hand phones, except for the search commander and deputy who were allowed to use their phones only for communication. Photographs and video recordings of the scene were only to be taken by our official photographers, he said.
“Provide details of the leaked photographs, if any, to enable us to conduct an investigation to verity if in fact the viral photos came from the police or otherwise, as there were family members and friends present during the search,” he said in response to Rosmah.
Amar said simultaneous searchers were conducted at six premises on May 16 and 17, each led by a “very senior police officer” who was the ground commander.
“Each commander and officer were categorically reminded by me to conduct the searches professionally and to accord the utmost respect to the occupants as these premises are occupied by the ex-prime minister of our country and his family.” – May 19, 2018.
