Malaysians jeer at Najib's request for witness protection

MALAYSIAN have flayed the former prime minister on social media for his “delusional” claim that his life is under threat.

Najib Razak has asked police for witness protection as law enforcers continue their probe into the 1Malaysia Development Bhd financial scandal. The ousted prime minister made the request in a report filed at the Sentul police headquarters yesterday.

Social media suggested Najib be accorded the best protection – at the Sungai Buloh prison where he would be safest from all attacks.

“I believe former prime minister Najib when he said his life is in danger. He asked for witness protection, but that’s not so effective. The safest place, away from harm, away from threats is in Sg Buloh prison, Now don’t you agree?” said Elizabeth Hew.

Others marvelled that a criminal suspect could claim to be a victim.

“A suspected criminal now claims he is threatened and asks for police witness protection…since when did the main suspect become a police witness. What other tales will he spin next to get sympathy?” asked May Ean Lau

“I think the cops should just ignore his request because he’s a suspect not a witness. And I think this is another act to gain sympathy and attention after (his) posting (of) several photos with his mum, in mosque praying, and sleeping on the sofa didn’t work and backfired,” Aldrin Tan

“With all the money you have in your house, you can afford your own private protection. Besides, all those threats are from crooks that you associated with all this time. I guess (it is in the interest of the country) to keep you alive so you can incriminate all your other buddies. Stay safe!,” said Sien-Chau Chu on Facebook.

“You are sick and delusional,” said Theresa Bangah.

Najib is being investigated under Section 4(1) of the Anti-Money Laundering and Anti-Terrorism Financing Act 2001.

His office and properties were recently raided by the police who seized truckloads of handbags, watches and cash from the premises.

One Facebook user asked whether the Najib government had given protection to the people.

“A stray dog needs protection, you don’t think so? (Were) Altantuya, Kevin Morais, Teoh Beng Hock and Sharudin given a chance?” said Raj Prasad.– May 19, 2018.
