Najib Razak has asked the police for witness protection as he believes his life is at risk, as law enforcers continue a probe into the 1Malaysia Development Bhd financial scandal, Malay Mail reports.
The ousted prime minister made the request in a report filed at the Sentul police headquarters yesterday and sighted by the paper.
In the report, the Pekan MP said there were clear threats to his and his family’s lives, within Malaysia and abroad, from people “directly and indirectly linked to 1MDB funds”.
Najib, who along with his wife Rosmah Mansor, is barred from travelling abroad, said he learnt of these threats from “sources”.
Najib repeated in the report he had done no wrong and had played only an advisory role at 1MDB.
He also reiterated the RM2.6 billion found in his personal bank accounts was a donation from the Saudi royal family. – May 19, 2018.
