AGGRIEVED at the way he is being treated by the new government, Najib Razak said today the rule of law must apply to all, including Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
He said Dr Mahathir should be subject to scrutiny and that he had in the past admitted to receiving gratification.
“Whatever it is, it has to be fair. Rule of law has to be applied in a very fair way, and it must be seen to apply to everybody. Everybody must adhere to the rule of law.
“I mean, if you have accepted 30 horses from your friends, that must also be taken into account, because he has admitted it openly. The horses were given by his friends.
“He has received gratification from his friends and has admitted it openly,” Najib told the Malay Mail in an exclusive interview at home in Jalan Duta today.
The former prime minister’s allegations were based on a 2016 CNN Indonesia interview with Dr Mahathir.
He had revealed his love for horses, and that some of the horses in his stable were gifts.
In today’s interview with Malay Mail, Najib accused Pakatan Harapan (PH) of “double standards” when evaluating the integrity of its own members.
He said Lim Guan Eng, the finance minister designate was on trial for graft.
He said most people would think it was inappropriate to appoint a man who was standing trial as a minister until his name had been cleared.
“I’m not saying he’s guilty, but clear your name first,” Najib was quoted as saying. – May 19, 2018.
