FORMER prime minister Najib Razak is unhappy at the manner in which the police had conducted a search in two condominium units occupied by his children.
In a statement today, Najib complained that during a search on Wednesday, police had seized personal items in the two units in Pavilion Residences in Jalan Raja Chulan, Kuala Lumpur.
Among the personal items seized were his daughter’s wedding gifts and baby shoes, said Najib’s lawyer Harpal Singh Grewal.
Najib and the family’s first complaint is that “no attempt was made to verify whether these dresses, shoes , baby clothes had anything to do with the investigation”.
“The two children are not in any way connected with 1MDB (1Malaysia Development Berhad) or any of the companies being investigated.
“They are professionals in their own right, successful in their undertakings. They are entitled to all these clothes and shoes,” Harpal told reporters outside Najib’s private residence in Jalan Langgak Duta.
Najib is also upset that police personnel helped themselves to food in the refrigerator and asked for meals to be prepared for them.
“The wide publicity surrounding the seizure of what are basically personal items belonging to the children has caused acute humiliation and embarrassment to the family,” Najib said in the statement presented by his lawyer.
Harpal also said Najib’s wife, Rosmah Mansor was not under investigation.
Najib was also hiring more lawyers to assist in the case, Harpal said.
Najib and Rosmah are prohibited from leaving the country. Harpal has said Najib is being investigated under the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act. – May 19, 2018.
