UMNO veteran Mohd Ali Rustam is the latest in a stream of visitors arriving at Najib Razak’s private residence in a show of support for the defeated prime minister.

“I hope he is healthy and will face this situation patiently,” the former Malacca chief minister told reporters before he passed through the police cordon about 200m from Najib’s house.

He said more division chiefs will drop by Najib’s house later today but did not mention any name.

Ali was also defeated in GE14 in the Hang Tuah Jaya parliamentary seat, which was won by PKR’s Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin.

Earlier, 12 individuals from Umno Pahang visited Najib.

At 12.30pm, Puteri Umno head Mas Ermieyati Samsudin arrived with seven others and are still at the premises.

Former Umno ministers Ismail Sabri and Noh Omar, who also came to visit Najib, told reporters that they came to show support and did not discuss politics with the former party president.

Yesterday, several Umno leaders called on Najib and his family, including former education minister Mahdzir Khalid, Pahang Umno Youth chief Mohd Shahar Abdullah, Baling MP and Tabung Haji chairman Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim and former Kedah menteri besar Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah.

Najib’s lawyer, Harpal Singh Grewal, said the former prime minister and his family are not under house arrest. – May 19, 2018.
