THE law does not forbid Mohamed Azmin Ali from holding both the positions of Selangor menteri besar and federal minister, said constitutional lawyer Syahredzan Johan.

However, he said, it is advisable that the PKR deputy president chooses only one.

“It is not against the law for Azmin to hold both positions,” he told Malaysia Decides.

“It is more of a perception issue. Both posts have heavy responsibilities, so it’s better that he picks just one.”

In a statement today, Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad named 13 cabinet members, who will be sworn in on Monday.

Azmin, who was sworn in as menteri besar following Pakatan Harapan’s victory in the 14th general election, has been given the economic affairs portfolio. – May 18, 2018.
