DR Mahathir Mohamad will not hold other portfolios in the Pakatan Harapan government.
The education portfolio, which the prime minister yesterday said he would take on, has been given to Bersatu’s Dr Maszlee Malik, who is Simpang Rengam MP.
It is a big jump for the former International Islamic University Malaysia lecturer, who joined the party just one month before the 14th general election.
Selangor Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali has been named economic affairs minister, while Ampang MP Zuraida Kamaruddin will hold the housing and local government portfolio.
Titiwangsa MP Rina Harun will head the Rural Development Ministry, while DAP’s Anthony Loke will be made transport minister.
The human resource portfolio is handed to M. Kulasegaran, while Gobind Singh Deo gets the communications and multimedia portfolio.
Amanah’s Salahuddin Ayub has been named agriculture and agro-based industry minister, while Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad will be health minister.
It was announced earlier that Deputy Prime Minister Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail will hold the women and family development portfolio, Mohamad Sabu (defence), Muhyiddin Yassin (home) and Lim Guan Eng (finance).
The list of ministers was released after Dr Mahathir met the Agong at 5pm today.
The ministers will be sworn in at Istana Negara at 11.30am on Monday. – May 18, 2018.
